Cernioge Bach Farm

Cernioge Bach is a 382 acer Tennanted Farm on the  Foelas Estate which rises from 950ft to 1350ft above sea level and all within the less favoured area.

We run Lleyn sheep and Stabiliser cattle on the farm. It lies within the beautiful surroundings and views in the Hiraethog area of the upper Conwy valley, about 9 miles from Betws y coed.

The farm carries 92 Stabiliser cattle and followers which are all signet recorded.

The sheep enterprise consists of 900 Lleyn sheep all being pedigree and MV Accredited. The farm is FAWL Farm Assured and produces genuine breeding stock that usually goes on to do well for there new owners.

Lleyn Sheep

I started in 1989 ( Flock 547 ) with the Lleyns after trying some other different breeds first. Dad had started in 1982/3 ( Flock 227 ) and by now the two flocks are run as one.

Of the 900 Lleyn’s about 200 are put to the Texel Rams and the rest are bred pure and now we have been rearing all our replacements for years now.

Lambing takes place in the middle of April onwards and all the ewe lambs are retained for a further year and are over-wintered on dairy farms and sold through the Lleyn Society Sales or at home as Yearlings.

Over the years some success at local shows have been achieved, also over the years some major events have been held on our farm including the NSA Welsh Sheep in 2009, Lleyn Sheep Society Events and North Wales Lleyn Sheep Breeders Club Events.

Stabiliser Cattle

Stabilisers started at Cernioge Bach following a meeting  with Richard Fuller followed by a visit to Givendale to see the Cattle. We had our  first calves on the ground in 2001 and now run a multiplier herd  as part of the Stabiliser Cattle Company.

The aim is to keep a closed herd of Purebred Stabiliser cows were we can sell Heifers and Bulls. They are mainly all polled and are easy to handle because of there docile temperament. All the heifers are expect to calve at two years old.

The calves are always of  consistent uniform even when going from farm to farm and also they have an outstanding eating quality. They are working cows with no room for passengers.

The management of the herd is, all are run under commercial management and calve in spring. Most of the Heifers ( except for what we keep ) are sold through the Stabiliser company at about a year old as long as they are about 400kg. We also keep about 10 Bulls each year to sell and they will be within the top 10% of the EBV’s
